New IDNet User - Quick question please?

Hello to all from a new IDNet customer. My migration from Newnet took place at 0450 this morning, nearly 24 hours early and less than 3 days from submitting my MAC! Very impressive.

I had previously had a response from Rik on Thinkbroadband which helped me make up my mind to move over. According to my Linksys WAG200 I am connected at 8128kbps with a DS margin of 11 db and a DS attenuation of 28db. I had good stats when my line was fixed at 2 Mb and I think the Max ADSL connection looks good.

Just a quick question about interleaving. My WAG200 is showing that the connection is interleaved. Is that normal for new connections on IDNet? I'm not a gamer so a slight increase in pings isn't really important to me, just wondered.

Anyway, just thought I would say hello and looking forward to a better broadband experience.

Glad the migration went well, and early too! Sometimes BT do suprise for the right reasons!

Your stats are to die for - I guess you live in the exchange!!! You have the maximum speed possible.

Interleaving does appear to be the norm for new connections. I'd leave it a week or two and if you don't have any stability problems you could request for support to ask BT to turn it off. Note though, that BT have been getting a bit tighter recently and the request may be refused. No harm in trying though!

Welcome to the forum and IDNet, have a karma to celebrate.

I can't see any reason why you would need interleaving, as you're getting maximum sync (theoretically impossible with interleaving on, but it happens

), with some noise margin to spare. Leave it for a few days and if your line remains stable, ask IDNet to have the interleaving removed.

Little question why did you move from newnet?

I also came from newnet and my reason was for the higher upload speed.

Just wish i had line specs like your's, if you use voip it would be worth getting interleaving switched off.

you "may" get a very slightly lower speed but i doubt it would be noticable.

I imagine you live next door to the exchange?

Thanks for the info about interleaving. To G7PKF, I do use VOIP so will wait for the 10 day period to pass and then maybe see about requesting it to be turned off. BTW I have one of those licences. Mine is a G3W** callsign, so I guess that says something about my age

I don't want to start knocking another ISP here. Let's just say that after two years I had begun to lose faith in the way that 'knee-jerk' decisions were made, compounded by my perceived arrogance in the postings of their CEO. I am not a big downloader, but in the two years I had been with them, I saw download allowance reduced twice and a silly fiasco about capping etc etc ... Enough said, I feel I voted with my feet.

I am about 2 km from my exchange but the line stats when I had a 2 mb line were always very good.

So regards to all and looking forward to a quiet efficient service.

Welcome to IDNet, 6jb.

Without meaning to get onto the topic of NewNet, I think the issue is that they've had to reduce allowances so that the level of service that their customers have come to know remains the same. But, like you say, the issue is how they go about it.

You won't be disappointed with IDNet; they really have the right idea.

I got mine when I was a school boy. Part of the reason my GCSE results wern't what they should have been.

Anyway, nuff said. T'Internet keeps me in touch with my firends these days. Maybe the interest will return one day.
