Autoplay

I just had a weird fault, Autoplay continually popped up repeatedly, nothing would stop it, I tried to close down my computer by the usual method but it just froze, I ended up hitting the front button.

On restarting my computer, it locked up at the Pentium Window, now I knew from past experience that this was USB related, as is the Autoplay fault.

I disconnected all USB items, fault/s cleared.

Anybody else experienced this ?

No. The only thing I can think of is to try connecting the USB devices one at a time, and see if a particular device is causing the problem.

It used to freeze at the Pentium window if I left a USB Canon Printer connected and switched on Rik, however that has long gone.

Problem now seems to be sorted OK, I just wondered if anyone else had come across this.

OK, on firing up my computer, it momentarily displays a Pentium Logo Window, ( white background blue / orange type ) never seen it on any other computer.

It's probably a BIOS option. Do you have an Intel motherboard?

No to Intel Rik, it is a Medion own brand Motherboard, don't talk BIOS to me, you should know better, it is as frightening as the word Registry.

All seems OK now, so hopefully just a blip.

It did coincide with an update pop up page for I think RealPlayer, maybe coincidence??

I don't know, In, RealPlayer seems to have caused me a lot of grief over the years. The Intel screen is probably just a wallpaper that Medion have put into the boot sequence. More commonly, they promote themselves.

Realplayer in the past version 10 had an issue with Autoplay Inactive but it caused it not to work the later 10.5 and 11 versions have no issue with that, I have not had that problem either, as Rik said could have been a device fault of possibly a IRQ conflict on post, keep an eye out and see what happens. Oh and Bios is not as bad as Registry at all

One possible thing is Real Player has a habit of trying to make itself the default player for everything, you could check that has not happened, possibly that would cause a software conflict, but I think its USB related myself

Yup, I had the same problem a while back In.

It seemed to be USB related, so I rang the changes with the USB devices, and it cleared. But you know how it is, you forget and add/remove a device and back it came.

At first I thought it was a new 4GB Flash Drive. Then it seemed to be the External USB2 4port powered hub. Then ............ and so on. No one thing seemed to be causing it.

Now I have removed the external powered hub, and installed a Belkin USB2 5 port internal hub, and am only using that. Ever since ('bout a month), no problem. So I hope I have cracked it.

Mo, it hasn't returned since, I did however disconnect my printer from a powered hub, so you may well have a point there.

From what I remember reading In, things like printers should generally be plugged into the USB ports on your machine if at all possible, not a powered hub, as it is known to cause issue sometimes, glad your situation is fixed now

Thanks Gary, I have 4 USB Ports at the back of my computer, all filled, 2 at the front, not used, as they are both behind a slide down flap, as much use as a chocolate fire guard..

Problem has not returned so it looks like a " one off " glitch.

I really believe manufacturers have got to get to grips with the USB port situation. I'm using 13, with hubs, and that's with a couple of devices not plugged in at the moment. It's the same with routers, I have all four wired ports in use.

Manufacturers need to recognise that we are making more use of our machines than ever before, in terms of numbers of computers and numbers of peripherals.

Oh, and router manufacturers ought to switch to gigabit standards too.
