I had a friend phone me this afternoon. He'd clicked OK on an alert without reading it, and his machine wasn't working anymore...

That's true! 

But that was what Vista is all about - security.  Yet the same people who are paranoid about security, won't even try it.
Or if they do, complain about it 'taking over'!!

I have found the perfect answer to using a machine with no protection.  I set it all up and activate it.  then I disconnect it from the Lan and Wan.  This gives me a very fast machine with no problems.  I go down to the library if I want to send emails via web mail.  It works for me.  My other machine is completely protected and connected to IDNET, that runs fast as well but not as fast as the other machine.  I've turned off all services not required and set it ups without all the fancy stuff of XP.  It boots in 20seconds that is up and running.

So there are ways around being safe.

I find if I leave the computer switched off, I get much more done!!
