I would have thought you needed to get the line back to BT in order to move to IDNet, but if you give the latter a call, they will tell you for sure.

You shouldn't do that, Simon, it's bad for your blood pressure. :)

Great news. Your BB will be much better - not sure about the calls.

I had the same decision to make but if my groundwork is correct,it inst an issue who the line is with, because in reality it is and always will  be BT tiscali and the rest just pay the line rental as we do but provide the call rate,so if anything goes wrong BT will be the ones who correct a fault the provider merely raises an repair ticket.so as far as the line goes although you don't pay BT the line is theirs. In my case I am a very light user with the phone so I opted to return to BT,your call usage may be higher.if your question is does id net line  only work with a BT line I don't know but it would seem unlikely.I chose to leave tiscali altogether ,I had phones with them, but I wanted a complete break its up to you.
I had problems with the line a couple of times and it took a few days longer because BT had to be informed and in my opinion if there is a fault I would rather BT get it sorted with no third party involved
Hope this helps, sorry if its long winded jst tying to cover all points.good luck
