If anyone is trying to source the new V4 with the broadcom chipset they are available here , but not in great numbers, more sites are getting them now though

The v4 uses a broadcom chipset. Not sure what the old ones used - but it's different! The broadcom chipsets are more configurable i think.

They used to be TI for ADSL, I think, Lance, but the v3 used Broadcom for the wireless, iirc.

The V4 uses the broadcom chipset as Lance says, which has greater stablility over the older TI AR7 chipset, so should be more stable over longer noiser lines and not so prone to dropouts that can occur in the previous versions of this Netgear Router

Indeed. The older Netgears used the AR7 chipset, and I blame this for their erratic sync and SNRM on some lines, mine included. The new v4 uses the Broadcom chipset and I'd imagine is far superior in this department now.

That's what I'm interested to find out, In. If it is that good, it would be useful as Netgears are simple to set up and available through normal retails channels, complete with warranties etc.

I don't think so as there are other routers out there with with the Broadcom chipset. The 2700 uses its own chipset.

I posted in another thread Rik, but so far the V4 is holding up well they have redesigned the box slightly and it holds onto its signal much better than v3 etc, ill give a report after a good week of usage but so far its holding on where the v3 would re sync, time will tell.

Stats staying up well, its 21:49 snr of 5.6 sync of 5600 with a 49db line so not bad much better than the v3, I'll do a speed test tomorrow, I'm to tired right now

That's a pretty decent sync for a 49dB line, and it's only dropped a little under 6dB tonight (although we never know if the reporting is entirely accurate). One thing is for sure: it appears to be a lot better than the AR7-based models.
