Sorry if any of you are on the Stony Stratford exchange and lost your internet over the weekend; it was indirectly my fault

An enginerr [sic] had been sent to test the linecard in the exchange because I have upstream errors. It was faulty so he broke it while reseating it or changed it for another faulty one.

Engineer came to my house today - told him he was meant to be in exchange replacing linecard........

Viola! Internet!

Rik

I'm on Wolverton - who cares.  ;D

So are you fully sorted, Mike?

Same here Rik, actually my experience of them has been excellent. ;)

Rik

I agree. Once you get through the bureaucracy to actually get an engineer out, the people themselves are excellent and will try hard to get a result for you.

I recall having a second line installed some years back, well before BB.

The existing line had the capacity, however the second line was too short to reach the new dual faceplate, so it meant cutting some plaster away to effect a join.

The engineer was so apologetic when he cut the plaster, he said if there is anything I can do to put things right, I said it was OK and not to worry.

He then offered to fit an extension FOC, so I said yes please to that.

A really nice fella.

Anyway, a bit of Pollyfilla, a bit of sand paper and a lick of paint, sorted. ;)

The last time I had an ADSL engineer out, I did just that. ;)

I wait with bated breath to see if my upspeeds no longer have errors.......................

thought it funny the engineer came to house not exchange....

Rik

Clearly the instructions were lacking a little... ;)

If you mean FOC, == Free of Charge. ;)

Rik

Forward error correction - it's the way that interleaving works to correct errors before you see them (also used by Sky for TV transmission).

miker

Ahh, and I see them cos I don't have interleaving!

Right OK Rik, I couldn't see any mention of FEC in the thread. ;)

If you see them, it usually means you do have interleaving, though they can be used with or without.

So, if you problems with Forward Error Correction, would it be safe to say, you've been FECked?  ;D
