hi guys

just switched from AOL to idnet and so far am extremely happy with it

just wondering as i play online games via xbox live for a few hours after work each night and over the weekend...does playing online contribute towards my 30GB monthly cap?

any info would be great

I'm not familiar with exactly how much data is transferred with these services, but I can say that it will use download allowance as you will be receiving data, though how much I cannot say. A lot of it will be uploads, though, which do not come off of your allowance (it's downloaded data only). Someone else might be able to quote some rough figures.

It may be worth getting one of those free bandwidth monitor programs for a month or two just to see how much you are downloading on average. Don't forget that you can also login to your IDNet account and view your usage, plus they'll automatically send you an email if, based on your average usage, you're likely to go over your allowance.

I hope this helps. :)

thanks for the heads up sebby....i'll keep an eye on my usage for a few days and see what happens

hope it isnt sucking up too much though as call of duty 4 is so good i might have to go back to AOL....and thats a scary thought

Like I say, I think a lot of the data being transferred will be uploads. Just login to your account on the IDNet site and it will show you your usage to date and, based on that, predict your usage for the month. ;)

ive just written down my current usage and im gonna hit call of duty for an hour then do a comparison

wish me luck lol

I'm interested in this as well.  I haven't turned my 360 on for weeks, but I do like the odd go on Call of Duty 4 online.  The general consensus on most forums I read associated with Xbox live is that physical amounts of data transfer are pretty low.

I don't trust Camels.  Or any other creature that can go a week without a drink.

You'll probably use a few mb for a large session online, if CS is anything to go by. Baring in mind everything is at your end, and all you're doing is sending your location info to the server and then the server sends it to other players.

The only time you download more than that is when you're getting custom content i.e. maps, but that's with PC versions.

Ah, but XBox live carries voice as well.

One other thing to mention, when you sign into your accounts page to check usage, you can also sign up to the RSS feed there, and have your daily usage 'pushed to you each morning, together with the monthly usage so far and the projected monthly usage.

xbox live gaming and pc gaming doesn't use much bandwidth..

I do both.. and only use 15gb a month, thats with doing my work and rest of the family using the net aswell.. so.. i've got 15gb left to use and can never seem to use it  ;D

Lance

You could pass it over to me, Paul! I'm sure I could find a use for it!
