..:: Running the BT Speed Test

BT Speed Test completely bypasses your Internet Service Provider. Therefore we must use a different username and password for connecting our ADSL Broadband connection to the BT Speed Test.

First thing to do is to find your username password that your use on your modem/router to logon your Broadband connection. I'm afraid you will have to find this yourself as there are far too many combinations of modem/router to list here.

Once you have found the login page, take note of what the username and password currently are. It's not a good idea to loose this information.

Next we need to change the username to : speedtest@speedtest_domain and leave the password blank. (no password).

Then simply establish the connection with the new details. Once the connection has been established, load up a suitable web browser and navigate to the following website address: http://217.35.209.142 or http://217.32.105

..:: Running the BT Speed Test

From here things are relatively straight forward. Enter in your phone number (this is the number that your ADSL Broadband connection is attached to NOT a contact number like a mobile) and press go to start the BT Speed Test. DO NOT do anything while the BT Speed Test is running just incase it interferes with the results (well ok you can still breath just don't play around with the mouse or anything.)

It's worth running the BT Speed Test a few times just to make sure you get a consistent result. From the tests.

Once you've finished the tests and taken note of the results, find your way back to where you changed the username/password for the BT speed test and update the details with those that were provided by your Internet Service Provider. Finally re-connect your ADSL Broadband Connection with the details from your Internet service Provider and check that everything is working as normal.

"Only TAP1 tests are enabled.
Please login as tap1 user."

Definitely logged in as speedtest@speedtest_domain. Any thoughts??

I don't know why it will not run but if you are only logging in to try to fix your ping then as long as you have connected in theory it should have worked.

I may be totally wrong here as I'm only posting what i have read round the forums , if Simon reads this he may explain in more detail how it works.

Connecting using the BT test login will do the job. No need to visit the BT speed test webpage.

This information is out of date !

Bt have ceased the speedtest@speedtest_domain.

You must remain logged in to Idnet and run the new test at http://test.speedtester.bt.com:50301/

You will need to enter your telephone number and at the next page fill in your IdNet login details.

This site is often very slow and each page can take some minutes to change.

The new site came online a few weeks ago.

I am not sure if both tests remained available in tandem, but I understand the old tester has now ceased.

The new tester gives BRAS information as well as Sync rate etc.

It is incredibly slow and often fails; even in the middle of the night it sometimes claims the server is too busy

But that is the only test acceptable to BT Wholesale and trying to get 3 results is a nightmare.

Whilst that login allows you to connect to BT, it will not allow you to reach any webpages, including the speedtest site. To browse anywhere, you must now be connected using your IdNet login details.

I have just used the method in my first post using the speedtest@speedtest_domain and connected first try , typing http://217.32.105 into the address bar got me to the speedtest page.

To use the speedtester correctly now you remain connected through your normal login details.

The test always takes some time to complete. Im naive enough to think its because its doing a thorough job.

Another way that works is to pay to be regraded to IP 2000 and then back to maxdsl this works but does cost
