Looks like a clean sweep of them Rik,

Trying to get back to the plot.

My Graphic Card shows up at Belarc as an NVidia GeForce 6200 Turbo Cache, it is obviously an OEM version as it doesn't have a DVI out, only VGA.

Now it seems that it is a PCI - E 16 model, but I am not sure?

Would this be OK as replacement?

Rik

Looks about right, In, but it doesn't state whether it needs an additional power supply, ie other than the bus. Do you know of you have any spare connections on your PSU?

An ordinary pencil eraser is quite good at cleaning the contacts, just get the debris off after...
and for the more stubborn stuff there is also something like a peco or hornby track rubber, just go easy with it.

It's not the danger, I'd be more worried about a £300 graphics card than the small matter of an electric shock.
I really can't see plain water doing any damage as long as it is dried up properly before the card is next plugged in.

Malc

I'm not going to volunteer to try it  :-[

Thanks Rik, I used a damp cloth, followed by a bit of kitchen roll..

Thanks for the " eraser " tip, will keep that for next time. ;)
A yonk and a half ago I worked on an American computer, we used to receive tips from them.  One of them was to use Pepsodent toothpaste to clean the pcbs' gold contacts. A few months later we received an urgent message to desist using this as it wore out the gold. Of course we all said it was obvious. For surely "you will wonder where the yellow went when you use Pepsodent.". funny, but true!
Nothing is perfect, not even my ignorance!

Rik

 ;D

Oh how I remember that slogan. I wonder why the brand failed here?

I remember it well, it actually went;

You'll wonder where the yellow went....when you clean your teeth with Pepsodent. ;D

I ain't gonna clean my Graphic Card with toothpaste ..or it may well remove the yellow stuff .. ( read gold plating ). ;D

I will stick to my trusted formulae of a damp cloth and kitchen roll.

It seems to have done the trick, still working OK... :fingers:

Now, tell me what the Hoover slogan was from the same period - and what tune did they use for the ad. :)

Got me there Rik, all I can remember about Hoover is their ( over ) generous free flights to Florida offer, got mine, despite all of the obstacles they tried to get out of it, cost them £20 million quid. :thumb:

Hoover beats as it sweeps as it cleans - The Marine Hymn. (I obviously was destined to work in the business. :))
