Not strictly an IDNet issue

Just switched from AOL to IDNet and IE, and had some useful advice already. I'm very rusty on IE having been with AOL for so long.

There are three users on the home pc, two users have a single email address and a single home page, and these have been set up without any problem.

The third user needs two email addresses (already created in IDNet) with two different home pages, and one of the email address and home page needs to be password protected. Can this be done in IE? Help always appreciated.

Umm... I don't think you can password protect a home page in IE as such, Garce, but I could be wrong, as it ages since I've used it too.  I think we're talking multiple user account on the PCs, and I'm not well up on those either, but hopefully someone will be along soon with some better guidance - are you using XP or Vista?.

That was another in my long running series of useless technical advice.   ;D

I've moved this to Computer Discussion for you as a lot of users tend to avoid Help, so hopefully you should get more replies here. :)

I assume you are running XP. The best way to achieve what you want to achieve is to set up different users (go to Control Panel and User Accounts). A lot of email programs do support multiple users, but I don't believe IE supports this, so user accounts is the way to go I'd say.

For the 2 users that have a single email address and homepage of their choice, you can just set them up as normal as the settings will only apply to their user account.

For the third person that has 2 email addresses, again, you can set them up as normal; assuming you're using Outlook Express or something similar, you can set 2 email accounts up in the same software client without a problem. When you perform a send and receive, it will check both accounts. Outlook Express allows you to set a password to access the application. If you're not using Outlook Express, just let us know what program you use and one of us will be able to tell you how to set a password (if possible).

With regards to password protecting IE, I don't believe this is possible, but as you can set a password for the user account on XP, it might not be necessary (and come to think of it, you might not need to bother setting a password for Outlook Express).

I hope this helps. :)

Hi,

You can't password protect pages in IE so your best option is to create a limited user account for each user.

May I also suggest you visit http://www.mozilla.com and change over to Firefox as your web browser (instead of IE) and Thunderbird email (instead of Outlook Express.) If you do this you should end up with a much more virus-free and happier existence :)

Good luck,
Paul.

Thanks for all your advice. I've switched to Mozilla and Thunderbird so will try that out.
