This upping and downing of speeds that is going on

    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
    Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6310 kbps

I ran this speedtest at 20.45 tonight which is in the thick of peak time and I sure as heck will not be gerning about 6310k .

The dual ssid 2wire 2700HGV has been just stellar , I gotta say it was £30 quid superbly spent on ebay to buy it. Fingers crossed the naff patch I went through , that lots of others seem to be dealing with now, I can hopefully lie suspicions at the feet of BT for that one.

The WBC rollout for my exchange is 18 aug 2008, if the 24MB adsl2+ stays around the 25 quid mark , Ill be grabbing with both hands, if it goes above 30 quid, im staying put with home max. Incidentally, the estimate for my line is 16MB -  22MB , it all depends on the price though and if IDNet are offerring 24mb service Im sure it will be real real good.

have idnet ever had periods in the past where users were complaining about sub par speeds ?

No idea; I only joined in December 2007.

none to my knowledge. There was a period where we had a massive influx of new customers when a new pipe was already on order from bt (three month lead time) and idnet had to be clever and implement some very good routing to keep pings low. Just towards the end of the three months the pings were slightly higher than normal. I recall that because of the routing, speeds were as good as unaffected.

It certainly seems like bt were to blame for you, James.

Yes- when IDNet had ordered a new pipe, but BT hadn't installed it yet. It was just after an influx of new customers, and once the pipe was up and running it went back to normal. Speeds were still acceptable though.
