That's a small price to pay from freedom, when freedom is being defined as leaving Pipex! ;)

David

Its not far short of what it cost me really, then on top of this, through no fault of IDnet I could not get online for about 30 days and had to resort to going to the  cafe just to read mail, but given all this it really was worth in for me.

I really feel a million times better for getting a first class service.with top rate staff and a brilliant helpline and support, thats without this forum which I would subscribe to if I had to,its brilliant.

When I was with Txxxxxxi there were times when even sending an Email was impossible and from what I have read since its got no better and I'm happy and thats what counts to me all the qualities I have listed are rare and worth their weight in gold to me.but then I maybe should get out more  8)

You could always try for a trip to the Olympics, I suppose. :) Historically, China fascinates me, but the regime now and over the past few decades would stop me going there.

But the foods nice

Hmmm Sweet and Sour Chicken... and chips...  :food:

Well I'm sorry to leave, but it was nice here!

Question is, I leave half way through billing cycle, do IDNet refund part payment?

Thank you

Just to say that there is a life after IDNet - Sky in my case:

I was with IDNet - customer service was brilliant, but I only used it once in 2 years. It was costing me £24.99 per month.

I signed up for Sky Mid package on Good Friday, I received the router the following Wednesday - pretty good as there was a Bank Holiday in-between and an activation date of 3 April.

On 3 April internet connection went down at 0900 - I plugged in the Sky router and 15 minutes later I was connected.

My download speed has increased from 4.3Mb to 5.5Mb and I'm saving £20 per month

Glad it's going well, Michael. I just jope you don't ever need to use Sky's technical support!

I assume your speed as gone up as a result of being LLU'd and doing away with BT's profile system?

Hi Lance - thanks for replying.

My sync speed has gone up from 5504 to 6176, but I guess the download speed has increased as a result of not being subjected to the stupid BRAS profile system

It seems then that when your line was moved from BT's equipment to Sky's you somehow got a better connection to the DSLAM which is what would have improved your sync. At least it went up and not down!

Don't get me started on the BRAS profile system   :rant2:

It was good to get a better connection - a few years ago when I moved from 0.5Mb to 1Mb there were all sorts of problems and a friendly and knowledgeable BT Engineer moved me to a different DSLAM then which resolved said problems.

Is sky using ADSL2? if so that might explain the improvement in sync speed.

I don't think it's ADSL2 in my case - I knew that my line was only capable of 5-6Mb (it's a 1980's estate with aluminium wiring) so I just went with the <8Mb package

cant overstate that point enough Seb, when you contact IDNet its no messing about , straight to the point and problem dealth with ..............that alone is worth the monthly fee.

although in the UK , you can still get a stinker of a service from UK based support too, Talk Talk @ Stornoway :-

Hello, this damned Broadband connection is connecting at less than 0.1MB again

But its 18.25 and this line closes at 18.30 ( audible fart in background and female staff complaining )

I dont freaking care , my broadband is......( click ) ..........hello , hello, hello, hello !!!!!!!!!!

Bring out the instigators, cos theres something in the air......................for a great deal, ring Talk Talk now...................weve got to keep it together noooooooooooooooooooooooooow

Theres foreign based $hite, UK based $hite and there is IDNet...............nuff said.

Be get good reviews for customer service, and contention issues have been dealt with now it appears, just because they are in Bulgaria does not mean they will not understand you, but they are expensive considering you have to add an email account as well, but people want more speed and right now for a few users here that's been an issue for whatever reason. I would go for O2 rather than Be same, lines 24/7 English support if you want an LLU service that is.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

I don't think Sky Mid is.

I don't think so either - maybe just not using BT's stupid BRAS Profiling system

You're right that is doesn't using bRAS profiles as it's LLU, though this wouldn't cause your sync to improve. I can only think the same as what Lance mentioned, i.e. that moving your line physically to Sky's equipment has improved some connection.

I have a friend on be and apparently when they say unlimited they really mean it and while his sync speed (about 11 megabit per second iirc) is faster than any BT based ISP can deliver for the moment. I don't think thier price is excessive for what they offer.

O2 own Be and it seems they are currently giving better deals under the O2 brand than under the Be brand particularlly if you have an O2 phone.

Sebby

I know users are pleased with the performance on Be*/O2. I don't know about the customer service, I haven't heard about that. I just wonder if they'll keep up this good performance. Who knows? They may well. :)

Concerns about customer service are probably valid, but how many customers actually have to contact them?

I guess most contacts are from the technically less savvy - who are also probably the ones who moan loudest about poor customer service!
