Hi .

Haveing problems installing the above router / wireless , I have my modem already connected to the internet and trying to get my router to work , Trying to connect wireless router by static ip is this right ? Keep on getting this message (ip adress and gateway is not at same subnet mask) Rik help ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are the IP address, gateway and subnet mask? I must admit I tend to leave my computers on DHCP and let the router assign everything.

I'm not familiar with the Linksys, but is there an option to allow it to automatically assign the IP address?

I'm a little confused. Are you saying you are using a modem for the internet connection, linked to a router? Or do you just mean the router is connected?

Anyway, as the others have said, its easier just to leave it to pick up the ip address automatically.

yeah i have tried it DHCP auto but still no internet connection , i am thinking it could be faulty or i am just stupid at the moment .

I have a linksys modem which is connected to the internet and now i have bought a wireless router to connect to the modem and then should have cable connection and wireless connection .

If i understand then, you could do away with the modem and just use the router? Its what most people do unless they often change their network topology.

Are you using xp? I've found that it can be very fussy with wireless networking and sometimes reinstalling the drivers does the trick.

No you can not use the router to connect straight to the phone socket i have a linksys modem connected to the phone this is just a cable/wireless addon (network). I am trying to connect my pc to the router by cable and me misses wireless .

I am going to try and connect a different way by static ip , so i have email support for some ips ...

• Static IP. If you are required to use a permanent IP address to connect to the Internet, select Static IP.
Internet IP Address. This is the Router's IP address, when seen from the Internet. Your ISP will provide you
with the IP Address you need to specify here.
Subnet Mask. This is the Router's Subnet Mask, as seen by users on the Internet (including your ISP). Your ISP
will provide you with the Subnet Mask.
Gateway. Your ISP will provide you with the Gateway Address, which is the ISP server's IP address.
DNS. Your ISP will provide you with at least one DNS (Domain Name System) Server IP Address.

And if that doesnt work i think it might be faulty .

So what IP address is on the ethernet port of your modem that is connected to the router, and what is the address of that port? Are those the addresses that are being reported as not being on the same subnet?

As I understand it, you have a wired modem/router and a wireless router.

Is the modem/router actually connected to the internet? If you plug a computer into one of the ethernet ports on this device, do you have internet? I think that's the first thing we need to establish.

The wrt54gs has no modem. Therefore as I understand it, he is connecting his existing ethernet modem to his new router and thence to his pc. The router setup should be as linksys support described i.e entering his
idnet ip address, his idnet gateway,idnet dns server adresses and subnet address (is that 255.255.255.0?)
Why autoconfig -dhcp is not an option I have no idea

Ah, yes, the WRT54GS is a cable router.

What modem is it? I wonder if the modem is passing the WAN IP or whether it's issuing a local IP.

i tried to do auto dhcp put did not work , so i was going to try it a static ip routing just incase the router is faulty . The router / modem is a linksys 200 sebby .

Try changing your Netmask to 255.255.255.255 that's how mine is configured

If all else fails,have you tried the wizard on the router setup cd? But there again that's probably not the brightest suggestion!

LOL mate yes , I think i might have found some thing so offline for a couple of mins and see if it works .
