Just bought a 2 Wire BT Badged 2700HGV

Hi Everybody

After reading how good these routers were I decided to take the plunge.

The one I have is a dual SSID set up was a breeze, all of 10 mins for the PC and Mac laptop.

My question is can the USB port be used to connect a printer so I could print from the Laptop???

Any help would be appreciated

Not afaik, Roger, as it would need the client software to be installed on the printer - iow, it's an alternative way to connect a PC, rather than a generic USB connection.

cheers for the quick response I thought that might be the case but I bow to others knowledge.

one thing I am sure of it is very easy to set up, and get running and is much faster than the Linksys I have been using before.

I have a long line just over 5km and am also on a fixed 2mb line so I think I will see how it .goes over the next few weeks , have thought about ADSL Max.

That's them, Roger. You stand to get about 3Mbps if your line is quiet, 2.5 if it's a bit noisy.

I am sure you won't regret getting the 2700. 
Like you I read all about them here on the forum and also like you I have the Dual SSID one.

Mine has got me another 500 kbps throughput of that I am certain.
I'm on:

and without going to the BT Speed Tester I am sure that my IP Profile is 3500 kbps i.e. up from 3000 kbps with my Netgear DG 834.

It looks like you could see some improvement on max, but then it's rate-adaptive and more susceptible to noise. If I were you, I think I'd be inclined to stay with a fixed 2Mb service for the stability and peace of mind.

That said, I wonder if we could help you improve your stats... Is your router currently connected to an extension socket with a microfilter?

I will keep you posted if anything develops, as to your question Sebby my internet connection comes straight from the Master socket directly to the router approx 2metres.

The master socket was modified by BT about 18 months ago as I had problems and an old face plate, so therefore I do not use adsl filters around the house it's all filtered at the master socket.

I am at the moment leaving the router powered up 24 hrs a day just to see if it will make any difference don't know to much about these things so that's why I read lot and then ask when I think I need to or more importantly when I just plain don't know or can't find out for myself.

I must say I am more than happy with IDNET as a provider I have had some probs but nothing that has not been sorted with just one phone call, just generally accept " it does what it says on the tin " .

In that case, you won't be able to improve your stats as your setup is really as good as it can be.
