After installing a load of driver updates (I go through and update everything I can every couple of months), I've just been offered the Vista SP1 via auto update.

I think I'll leave off for now!
I had no issue with Vista SP1 lance it works well, I don't take the driver updates off windows update though, I always manually update chipset drivers and network and graphic ones myself, there have been reports of the Windows driver updates causing issues,  SP1 was installed in I would guess 30mins (didn't count) and file transfer etc is faster now, I must admit Vista runs faster on this machine than xp did on my other pc and I was a die hard xp fan. SP1 has brought a degree of maturity to Vista now and is well worth installing, at 66mb on my setup its not huge either.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Lance

Right. I've made and validated a TI backup image so guess if it all goes wrong I can just restore to that!

Time to take the plunge!

Looks like a 66.9MB download for me!

I have been pleased with the speed of Vista SP1 (Business).  It's every bit as fast as XP now, and it is certainly more secure.  Especially if you do as MS suggest and run as 'user' and not as 'administrator'.  ;)

Lance

Good news! All is fine! I can't make any comparisons yet as I've only just booted up!

You can power down the hard drives again now, Gary!

I use UAC as ms suggest, it was not practicle in XP really but works well in Vista and hopefully does stop system wide access by malware  :)

Drives powered down Lance, glad all went well :thumb: worth doing a chkdsk as I had some minor freespace errors with the MFT after installation which chkdsk sorted out, always seems to happen with big MS installs even IE7 caused it on my old machine.
