Couldn't get on this morning - OK now

Being retired, I tend to be online during the day, and sometimes the small hours, but not generally during the evening.

Consequently, when I powered up the notebook this morning, I was a bit upset to see that my connection had been down from a bit after 18:00 last night. Naturally, I assumed it had something to do with the maintenance, so I called in the problem (sync was OK, could not get past CHAP). Simon told me there was nothing at their end to cause the issue, but got Adam to check my line and call me back. He couldn't see anything, and as I'd already tried re-booting the router, he asked me to switch off for half-an-hour in case the exchange was holding my session (not helped as the bt test login wouldn't work either).

After 35 minutes, I powered back up, and still couldn't get back online. On a hunch/out of desperation, I got my old router (DG824V2) out of the cupboard and it connected immediately! I then factory-reset the current one (DG834G), and allowed it to auto-detect settings. It would work if I allowed it to use LLC multiplexing, the moment I switched it to VCP down went the connection again.

The router has been replaced, and all is well, working on VCP as it should.

Weird or what?

Anyway, thanks to Simon and Adam and apologies for giving them work they didn't need.
