Interesting article showing that things aren't as perfect in Mac world as a lot of mac users would have us believe here

Platform wars used to be massive back when I worked for Adobe. Truth was, the graphics industry went Mac because it was way ahead of PCs initially. After that, they couldn't afford to admit there was little difference.

Who wants to admit that maybe they were wrong?  >:D

It amused me, because if you believe almost every mac user you hear or read comments from, you could be forgiven for thinking that macs are perfect......

Rik

In some respects they are. Being a standard box, software works as planned. OTOH, the OS itself is as flawed as any other.

But surely the OS is the biggest piece of "software" on there? Problems with that will have a knock on effect on other software on the machine.

Rik

To an extent, yes. Because the hardware is so standardised, though, the opportunity for conflicts is greatly reduced.

I doubt you will find many Mac users that suggest they are perfect, other than the more rabid clowns who infest some of the usenet groups.

Like many Mac users I use both platforms being forced to use Windows at work, although I do have a home built XP machine which I need to use from time to time.  Over several years I have found the bulk of the problems happen on Windows machines.  My current Mac has had a couple of kernel panics over the last two years both of which were traced to plugged in USB devices.  Apart from that no probs whatever - well so far...  My other machine a 6 year old PowerMac G4 having given faultless service, is now used for remote logins via a VPN or SSH.  It switches itself on at the approved times, does its thing and switches off again.

Frankly I couldn't be bothered using anything else unless I had to.  In my experience they are, for whatever reason, far less trouble.  YMMV of course.

[Edit]  A useful article on Windows punditry:

Albeit biased towards Apple, Daniel does write some good pieces, often with a historical basis and always with references.
