Crummy Speeds lately.

Dont mention Talk Talk !!

Something definitely going on at the moment . My usual rock solid 6.5MB connection is fluctuating 2.9MB and 4.5MB . Im 640 metres from exchange , so sumthin is definitely affecting throughput. I see $hitty speed threads are starting up now here at netters.

If you've done all the usual checks, the best way is to contact support, James.  They will probably confirm it's BT up to their tricks again.

yeah mine is dire too tonight .



and done a bt test . something is going on .



Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
    Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2517 kbps

I'm on DSL4 and have just run a speedtest (two actually, one of which was a BT one). I'm on a 4000 profile - the BT speedtest gave my throughput as 3847 and the speedtest Inactive linked to the other day gave 3.85mb. This shows my throughput is bang on for my profile.

I wonder if it could just be BT works - do you know if your exchange i being enabled for WBC soon?

To contact support we either ring them (and have the phone answered by a knowledgeable person who is not reading from a script), or send an email support@idnet.net :)

DSL4 is the 'realm' or 'gateway' through which the majority of the older IDNet users log on to. Since IDNet got the new pipe just over a year ago, the majority of customers joining have been given .gw5 usernames.

now that is just not funny  >:( >:( :eyebrow:

if things dont improve , I might have to look elsewhere. that is not indicative of a premium ISP and certainly not worth £24.99 p/m

I don't know how many more times we have to say it, but you need to contact support, James.  It could well be that BT are doing some work, which is beyond the control of IDNet, but you'll never know until you ask them.  Unfortunately, you probably won't get an answer before Monday now, but drop an email to support@idnet.net and / or leave a message on 0800 0267 237, and they may pick it up over the weekend.  :)

I spoke to simon davies last saturday , he said their systems were fine, my speeds were still appalling though................its funny how others are getting poor performance also.

But how will that help? We know this is unlikely to be an internal problem - just looks at Inactive's speed test that he posted a couple of days ago, for example. If you don't contact support, things are unlikely to change. We know your setup so we know it's nothing at your end, so you must give IDNet a call or send them an email. :)

Just to prove that, I'm on gw5, with a 4000k profile, and here is my speed test result performed a minute ago.

Not being funny James, but one or two users with slower than usual speeds is far more likely to be indicative of BT works or other external factors. Normally, if there is a widespread IDNet problem, the forum is soon a hive of activity as several users come on to give their input on the problem.

I see your exchange is going to be WBC enabled in August, James, and therefore it is highly likely there are ongoing prep works being done by BT at the moment.

Some are, but most are not, so surely that has to indicate an issue at your exchange?  I know it must be frustrating, and also I know we blow IDNet's trumpet, and are quick to blame BT for most speed issues, but in most cases, it turns out to be not the fault of IDNet.  That said, they can often get things sorted out with BT for you, so it's worth contacting them.  :)

I'm not disputing that something's not right, but I'm just trying to prove to you that this can't be an IDNet issue. It's most probably BT doing WBC work at your exchange. Move ISP if you wish, but it'll be a shame to see you go, and I can't imagine things will improve.
