Flash player 10.3.183.7 released, security update.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Gary

Firefox 6.0.1 update released

Issue

Mozilla was informed today about the issuance of at least one fraudulent SSL certificate for public websites belonging to Google, Inc. This is not a Firefox-specific issue, and the certificate has now been revoked by its issuer, DigiNotar. This should protect most users.
Impact to users

Users on a compromised network could be directed to sites using a fraudulent certificate and mistake them for the legitimate sites. This could deceive them into revealing personal information such as usernames and passwords. It may also deceive users into downloading malware if they believe it's coming from a trusted site. We have received reports of these certificates being used in the wild.

Where the hell is the update option in Firefox these days? I know it's supposed to update automatically, but there's no sign of an update and I can't find the tab to force one!

Ah, found it. Sort of. Under about, it seems to force a check when you open that tab.

Its not Firefoxs fault here, they are updating to protect end users from the false certificate issue with DigiNotar http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-14802673 and http://www.informationweek.com/news/security/attacks/231600810 some browsers like Safari have not even been patched to protect people yet. XP users are not protected unless they are using Firefox 6.0.2 or Chrome latest versions at this time, Vista upwards has been patched, OS X has not been patched and nor has Safari. In OS X you can delete the certificate in keychain.

Yes I've just upgraded the AV version from V4 on my Homeserver this afternoon, Rik, it's still very light on resources, details of the changes are here: -

Adobe reader just this minute updated. It might be a day or more old as this is the first time using it since I installed this new system.

For some reason I can't see flash in windows messenger. I've got the latest version installed, but it's been saying it's out of date for months and if you click on the little window on one friends 'weeme' character (or where it should be) telling you to install flash, it takes you to an old out of date adobe page. As I have the newest version of flash, why is messenger not working? I've had this problem with it since my last install, and it's come over on this install too. Before the animated winks were working, but not the weeme thing, but now it's everything flash based within messenger. I don't understand :(

Rik

Have you checked the flash folder for any out of date versions, Niall?

Oops forgot to post to say I'd fixed it. I forgot flash won't install into IE64 bit, so had to launch the 32bit version which I'd not done for years, and install flash in there. Now it works again ;D
