Is there any main reason for slow throughput. I know its a 'how long is a piece of string' question but what could be the main cause.

had BT out again today and he did all tests with good results on his gear and mine, called some other place who did further tests on both sets of equipment with good results too. The guy on the phone did say that at the exchange some kit for my line was set too low so he adjusted it up and tested again. Now I'm not sure about that bit as I have previously got the same high sync rate before today as he  got after the alteration, so it may have been while he was testing it, i dont know.

after the test I have a good sync and profile but a cr*p throughput. The phone guy and BT suggested leaving it a few hours to get back up to speed but that was 2.00pm ish and its still the same now.

If all the equipment tests OK, I wonder if it could be your ISP?

Tbh, if your sync is good and the profile is correct, but the throughput is poor (assuming you've ruled out it being the router) then it has to be either the exchange on the ISP; I would say the ISP.

Rik

Another ISP vote, Baz.
