Most of you are aware of my problems with speed sync snr and disconnection's.

well i have done everything AND I MEAN EVERYTHING.

I can now confirm that my snr graph from router stats looks like a saw.

the trains mainly interfere with the connection when they pass under the bridge (some 2 miles from my house)where the BT cables run (over the railway line-guessing within 3 metres of the overhead power lines).

The only good thing is since the singtel firmware i have had only 3 disconnection's in 3 months BUT this is at aprice of speed, with sbc i get apx 5Mb )with 5-20 disconnects a day) with singtel its down to 3.

So i am resigning to the fact that unless BT put in a sub exchange (and run fibre to it) in my village i am just going to have to put up with low speed.

Sorry ive failed, i cant do anymore.....Hopefully my experiences will enable me to help the rest of you.

AND I HATE VIRGIN TRAINS (they are the worst offender)

Sebby

I'm sorry to hear that you can't sort this 100%, but unfortunately that's just BT for you (and, probably, Virgin Trains). :(

Still, at least things are relatively stable. Good to have you back. :)

Rik

Have you thought of trying some of the techniques employed by the French Maquis during WWII, Dean. ;)

I have thought about it but whats the point of having a stble connection while i am banged up.

by the time i got out the trains would be running again.

If it's any consolation you've still got 4 times the download bandwidth I've got! :eek4:

Wonder if this is worth a support call.

Just compared my neighbours stats to mine (pics posted) but a speed differance of 2Mb? and they do not get dissconnections..  main point is there cable is brand new mine is 30 years old.

Is it worth a call to support?

what do you reckon.

Forgot to say i intermittently get cross-talk on the line in that i can half hear another converstaion.

But this is very intermittant.

the line sounds cr*p at the best of the time.

dean

Rik

Phone BT, report the cross talk as a voice fault and don't mention ADSL, Dean. We are given to understand that standard BT remedial action to to swap the exchange pair.

what if ther are no spare pairs to my location?

Rik

BT will have to work a bit harder. :)

Maybe they'll swap it with your neighbours

g7pkf

Whats the best thing to say when on the phone to them, i mean what will get the best response.

the line is awfull- call quality is poor very quiet and ocasionally crackly and ocasionally i canhalf hear another conversation in the background.

but as i said whats the best way or reporting this to them at BT to get the best reult?

Rik

If you can hear noise, then tell them, Dean, but they key thing to mention is that you can hear other conversations at times.

Edit: what a difference a letter makes.

Crosstalk seems to be a good one as the standard fix is to swap you to a new pair. Whilst it might be a white lie, there is something wrong with the broadband and this might sort it.

Lance

I made it clear that it was intermittent crosstalk. That way it didn't matter if they couldn't hear it when the engineer came to test the line!

Thats exactly what i have.  they can never hear me but i can hear them sometimes as well as the person i am talking to.

and the line volume is terrible, people struggle to hear me i struggel to hear them!! the voip system is much clearer. hence we tend to use that.

Dean

Rik

Well, you have the right symptoms, Dean - go for it. :)

Well reported to BT the fault. (it happened twice yesterday-heard the voices).

They checked the line and guess what NFF.

Think this is going to be one of those pain's to get sorted.

They did say if they could not find a fault there would be a charge, Usuall thing.

Trouble is if they come out they won't find a fault unless the third party is on the phone at the time.

seems like i am in a catch 22 and the chances of getting a BT engineer out at the weekend to sit on my phone for the day is probarly pretty remote.

Dean

Rik

Odd that, Dean, they usually respond to the intermittent crosstalk issue. Maybe it's become too well known and used?  :(

Skipped fault reporting and just lodged a complaint via complaints procedure.

transcript below

The problem I am having is that mainly at weekend's (but sometimes in the late evening) i can hear albeit faintly another conversation on the line.
I have tried disconnecting every other phone on the line (and broadband) so that only a wired phone is plugged into the main BT point, and the problem still persists. (as suggested by one of your team when i reported the fault)
This problem has been happening ever since we moved in to the property but seems to have got steadily worse in the fact that the third party is getting louder. They apparently do not seem to be able to hear my conversation.
The problem is unless the third party is on the line the fault is not apparent. Hence i do not want to incur a charge as i Have done everything to eliminate my equipment.
I have run the online check whilst the problem is apparent and it comes back NFF.
I have read your online help guide and done all that is recommended can you recommend anything else i can do?

Regards

Lets see what happens. Im playing the nontechnical idiot.  ;D
