sorry I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but here goes. I own and run a site and forum for survivors of abuse and rape. Recently we had to ban a member :( Don't like doing it been she was been aggressive to others, so banned her ip ( we use invision power board ) to find she doesn't have a static ip, so she just unplugged her modem and got back on. I can't ban her ip by wildcat (think that is what it is) as a number of members use her IP and it would ban them too. So persevered  by banning her ip every time she  came on.
But now she has taken to using an anonymous proxy.  My question is, there isn't really a lot I can do is  there? is  she allowed to use an anonymous proxy on a site she is banned from? She is using https://anonymouse.org. Sorry to put this here, but not sure what else to do, and you guys are so helpful :)

Simon

Can you not impose a ban by user name or email address?

Hi Diss

In SMF you can ban by IP, username, hostname or email address. Obviously, hostname would be no good to you, but do you have the ability to use either of the other two triggers?

If not, then the only thing I could suggest would be to warn her that you will report her abuse to her ISP. As to whether she's allowed to use the proxy, it depends on what's in your rules, here I would take it as trying to circumvent the ban, and would do all I could to make the ban effective and permanent.

Did that and she just created another account with a different email and user name :( she is really doing my head now :(

Rik

On most forums the creation of a second account to bypass a ban results in an immediate permanent ban. If you can't nail her by username or email, then all I can think of is to talk to her ISP, usually abuse@...

I'm not tech enough to know the answer, but is it possible to obtain and then ban their MAC address? Presumably he/she is unlikely to have access to many different routers/modems or computers.
