Hi all
I've just got BT digital vault and am uploading loads of files to it.
(If anyone here uses it, I do have some specific questions about it as well which I won't post for now)

On a speedtest, my upload speed is at least 200 if not 350kbps+ (thinkbroadband says 369, speedtest says 235 today, but 367 last night)

On the BT uploader, it says I am uploading at 22kbps, and reckons 107Mb will take 1hr10mins to upload.

Why is there such a difference between the speedtest figures, and what actually seems to be happening?
Or is it just that BT digi vault is slow??

Thanks

Rik

I've no experience of the BT service, I don't trust other people with my data, but on FTP uploads, I get the speed I would expect. I'd be inclined to think, therefore that it's the BT servers which are the problem. OTOH, maybe your exchange is congested? I take it you're not running any P2P applications at the same time?

If no-one else responds, you might like to ask IDNet, but compare an FTP to your webspace and see what you can achieve on that upload.

The time period sounds about right. I just experimented by starting an 83mb upload to my IDNet webspace (two 41.5mb Photoshop files), which uploaded at my line's full speed, 378kbps, and the time to upload was shown as 1hr 10 mins. (I use NetMeter to monitor speed)

I didn't complete that upload as it was just a short 2 minute test, but I do regularly upload 40mb files to another FTP server, and those uploads usually take about 20 minutes.

8mb ADSL Max is fine for downloads, but uploads are painfully slow.

Taking of BT Digital vaults, they want every user to pay £4.99 an month from October http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/08/15/bt_digital_vault_not_free/
