Title: Another which printer thread...
Post by: mrapoc on Feb 04, 2010, 13:10:04
Sorry guys

Buttt im sick of this printer and want to sell it on

We dont print often at the moment, but i want to ideally get a networked printer (ethernet should do) for placement downstairs by the router (not much room in my room).

Also, i'm guessing we would probably start printing a lot more photos as the epson only holds like 10 photo card at a time due to some stupid feeding in problem.

Cheap ink is a good thing, so either good compats, long lasting or cheap genuine. Dont really care about print speed, im thinking that hp has the print heads  on the carts? which would be good to avoid clogging - also good on ink use?

Canon for photo quality, which sounds good, but is the ink expensive?

Canon ink is expensive Sam, but the printers, use less ink per page, I believe that they print around 800 pages per cartridge for my MP610 at a standard coverage. Take a look here (http://www.choicestationery.co.uk/compat.asp?group_filter=9) for the prices

Canon is the best photoprinter on the market atm, Sam, at least in my experience. They use tanks, not all-in-one cartridges, but mine's never failed to fire up, even after several months inactivity.

HP uses sRGB and is less good for photos, but is a good general printer. Newer models are moving to tanks and separate heads.

I would agree with Rik Canon are the best for photo printing.

Another vote for cannon my old ip5000 photo printer is still is going strong, and produces fantastic quality photographs and its 5 years old now. There are newer Cannons with loads more features, but ours still has a resolution of 9600dpi and does what I need it to, so why replace it.

I'll say the same for the IP5300 just sits there quietly until I need it

So, that's a massive majority for Canon then. :)

Another vote for Canon. My IP4300 is still romping along, and good results with compatible inks, too.

I've got a Canon MP620 and I'm very pleased with it especially as Canon were doing a cashback offer at the time and it had a good discount at Amazon. It's a multifuncion device with a a built in wireless connection which was quite easy to configure although it's a bit slow to start up. It also takes reasonably priced compatible cartridges that contain more ink than the original Canon ones. There are similar models without the wireless link that may be a bit cheaper if this is not required.

I took delivery last week o a new HP Photosmart Premium which was half price on HPs website. First impressions are good. Set up was a doddle, both connecting it to the wifi and the software side of it to. I've not printed much yet but the test photo print was top notch and general printing is sharp and clear.

Canon are completely cr*p when it comes to getting Linux drivers.
It's do-able - but hard.
